How Meditation Saved My Life

When I found meditation, I was stuck in my head.
I was in the midst of immense PTSD from childhood trauma, anxiety, & depression (read more of my story here).
And I was trying to figure out my solution.
I was trying to THINK my way out of the pain and inner misery.
But unbeknownst to me at the time, this was only further tangling up the yarn knot of thought in my brain!!!
I was, and always have been, very intellectual.
But I would never have freed myself from my thoughts through MORE thoughts.
I needed a different approach.
One can’t think their way out of turmoil in brain.
The problem was the thoughts (and more)!
I would have driven myself into the ground if I let my stubborn controlling know-it-all arrogant mind (at the time) keep running the show and ignoring everything my body and soul and heart were screaming at her to change. To do differently.
I needed to learn to not worship thoughts.
To know I was more than thoughts.
To recognize and experience the other parts of me -
Body
Emotion
Presence
Energy
Beingness
STILLNESS
LIFE IS LIVED BEYOND SIMPLY THOUGHT.
LIFE IS SOOO MUCH MORE THAN WE CAN EVER POSSIBLY EXPERIENCE SOLELY THROUGH OUR BRAIN. THROUGH THOUGHT.
LIFE IS RICHNESS
DEPTH
FEELING
SENSATION
EMOTION
HEART
ENERGY
LOVE

Western society would have you think otherwise..
DON’T BUY INTO IT.
The full richness and depth and breadth of life is what indigenous peoples have always known -
IT IS IN AALLLL OF US!!!!
Body emotion mind
SOUL
That level, that depth beyond the human mind.
Beyond what the human mind can EVER comprehend.
Our opportunity is to move beyond the mind.
To not BE CONTROLLED BY OUR MINDS.
TO BE IN CONTROL OF OUR MINDS.
TO KNOW WE ARE MORE THAN OUR MINDS.
TO USE OUR MINDS AS BEAUTIFUL POWERFUL MIRACULOUS TOOlS TO CO-CREATE OUR LIVES AND BE WHO WE DESIRE TO BE.
TO EXIST AND IDENTIFY AND LIVE BEYOND OUR LIMITED MINDS.
Through meditation, I found so much more than I ever imagined:
I found truth
Love
Me
I found a spiritual awakening.
Or really it felt like it found me!!!
Because I allowed my mind to relax. open. surrender.
I allowed myself to trust.
I allowed myself to be open to more than my logical mind can create.
I found me
Me burst forth.
My true life burst forth.
My soul living the life I was born to live burst forth !!!
I found the richest most invaluable treasure that could ever exist.
I found peace.
I found truth.
I found unconditional love.
I found safety.
I found ME.
TRUE ME.

P.S. I have had so much fun over the past 13+ years exploring a variety of types of meditations & spiritual traditions! I first developed a (mostly) daily practice of meditation using the Headspace app. The type of meditation I learned & practiced through this app is a huge part of what helped me to save my life through meditation. It’s also what went on to help me through one of the most challenging experiences in my life, which I describe in depth here. I haven’t used the app in probably about 10 years and I am sure it has evolved - the foundation I learned from it still serves me today.
