YOU ARE YOUR OWN AUTHORITY

One of the things that fascinates me the most is how we are truly OUR OWN AUTHORITIES!!

What we BELIEVE about life, ourselves, the world, is what is TRUE FOR US. It is what we experience predominantly in our lives!

I describe this in depth in last week’s blog, New Beliefs = New Life.

Therefore, you are the ONLY authority in your life! You are in CHARGE!

YOU CHOOSE what you think, feel, and believe.

Therefore, YOU decide and co-create your life!

*Now, of course there is always an aspect of this where we cannot control other people or circumstances in the world. But our beliefs influence how we PERCEIVE experiences, as well as what things & people show up in our lives! This is incredible!!!!

We choose what we are open to experiencing in our lives and the universe responds to us.

After leaving the religion I was raised in over 8 years ago, which I describe in detail here, I spent many years exploring different spiritual traditions, perspectives, and communities.

And - WOW - everyone has so many different ideas of what is true. What is reality. Who we are. What one should do to be a good person - Wow!!

At first, I fell into the pattern that I was raised in - automatically believe that whoever was in charge in that space, knew the truth. They had the ultimate truth & authority. They were right!

I bounced around from tradition to community like this, and damn was that exhausting! Confusing! Disorienting!!!

My mind continually in a whirlwind, analyzing and contradicting and winding itself up in circles & knots, attempting to decipher who knew what was true, which person or tradition I believed, and how the f*ck did I know what they said was true anyway?!?!

I eventually became aware of the pattern I was repeating:

I WAS GIVING AWAY MY AUTHORITY. LIKE I HAD BEEN RAISED TO DO. AGAIN & AGAIN. TO PERSON AFTER PERSON!!!!!!

I was done.

Done!

I refused to live my life dependent upon other people for what I believed in…

And guess what - people are just that - people. Imperfect, opinionated, flawed, growing, changing, and seeing the world through their very own unique lens. 

And guess what - all spiritual traditions were founded/created/taught by, you guessed it - people!!

This really hit me one day - around the time I realized that I was allowing everyone but myself to be my own authority!

At the time, I didn’t trust myself fully in this area. I didn’t know if I would be okay without another ‘authority figure’ to rely upon.

I didn’t know what I believed.

AND I REALIZED THAT TO BE THE PERSON I DESIRED TO BE & LIVE THE LIFE I WAS CALLED TO LIVE, AND BE FULLY FREE, I HAD TO BECOME MY OWN AUTHORITY.

Now, this was a long & methodical, intentional journey.

To come to the place where I fully trusted MY SELF. MY KNOWING. MY AUTHORITY, ABOVE ALL ELSE!!!!!!

It was a multi-year journey for sure!

Having been on the other end now for some time, I can confidently say this:

WHATEVER I BELIEVE, IS WHAT IS TRUE FOR ME.

Every human has a different idea of what is Truth. Of what is ultimately true.

But nobody knows for sure. What proof do they have?

SO, I flipped it on its head - there is no ultimate PROOF one way of the other that one tradition or teaching is THE truth.

But what I do know, is that I experience WHAT I BELIEVE as MY REALITY.

SO - 

I AM GOING TO CHOOSE WHAT I WANT TO EXPERIENCE

AND SELECT AND BUILD MY BELIEFS BASED ON THAT

I EXPERIENCE WHAT I BELIEVE AS TRUTH IN MY LIFE

SO I WILL CHOOSE BELIEFS THAT I WANT TO BE TRUE, THAT ALLOW LIFE TO WORK IN THE WAYS THAT I DESIRE. EXPANSIVE AND JOYOUS AND FREEING!!!!!!!!

AND, I know that I have the ability to be continually evolving and expanding my own beliefs & perceptions of reality!!!!!!

YAY!

I GET TO CHOOSE BELIEFS THAT FEEL GOOD TO ME!

And so, my invitation for you is:

YOUR ARE YOUR OWN AUTHORITY

YOU GET TO CHOOSE WHATEVER YOU BELIEVE

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE TRUE FOR YOU?

LOVE IT

THEN START CREATING & BELIEVING THESE THOUGHTS/BELIEFS!!!!!!
